Dry Rot and Cellar Tanking in Huddersfield

Date Posted 18 March 2025

Challenge

A property in Huddersfield suffered from a severe dry rot infestation, which affected the floors, joists, and walls. The customer also wanted their cellar tanking to make it usable.

Solution

In response to the dry rot infestation and the client’s desire to make the cellar usable, we carried out a comprehensive restoration plan.

  1. Removal of Affected Materials: Our team began by removing the damaged flooring, joists, and plaster to eliminate the source of the dry rot.
  2. Fungicide Treatment: We applied a fungicide spray to eradicate existing dry rot spores and prevent future growth.
  3. Damp Proof Course (DPC) Injection: A DPC injection was administered to prevent rising damp, a primary contributor to dry rot.
  4. Membrane Installation: We installed a waterproof membrane, followed by boarding and a skim finish, providing a fresh, dry surface.
  5. Structural Repairs: Damaged joists were replaced and treated, and chipboard flooring was installed to complete the restoration.
  6. Cellar Tanking: The final step involved tanking the basement to prevent water ingress, ensuring the entire property was protected with a watertight seal.

Result

We successfully eradicated the dry rot infestation, repaired damage and transformed the once-damp cellar into a usable space. The treatments we carried out – including fungicide application, DPC injection, membrane installation, and cellar tanking – all provided a lasting solution, safeguarding the home and its inhabitants for years to come.
